I was raised in Salt Lake City and learned the art of sewing at the knee of my mother and grandmother (who won many blue ribbons at the Utah State Fair starting in 1928!). In first grade I worked diligently to create clothes for my Troll doll, and subsequently for all my Barbies! By the time I was a teenager I was making all my own clothes, including plaid coats. Before too long I had 3 daughters of my own, and was busy creating matching mother-daughter outfits for Christmas and Easter, as well as designing dresses for many family’s’ annual portraits. I began working on brides while sewing for a bridal store in La Canada Flintridge, CA. From there I started designing bridal, brides-maid, prom dresses and special occasion dresses for those who wanted a unique look. This evolved into designing and creating competition dresses for many nationally ranked figure skaters too! I must have been born in the wrong era, as I have always loved Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, The Andrews Sisters, Hayley Mills, Sandra Dee, and Audrey Hepburn. The music and dress of the 40’s & 50’s have always been my favorite! It must be why I look to that era for my inspirations. The clothes spoke volumes about the event and had a distinct feel of fun! So why not relive those beloved times in my Couture creations! Modest Couture by Elizabeth was born out of a need for fun, unique dresses for brides, homecoming queens, quincinera, and all those who prefer not to show too much skin! These dresses are different on purpose... I don’t want them to look like the same old frumpy-modest dress. These dresses are intended to party, boogie and celebrate in, in your own style, while still having a fabulous one-of-a-kind dress made specifically for you! |
